Dante Buford talks recruiting, summer

One of the top prospects in the southeast for the class of 2013 is former South Carolina prospect Dante Buford. After a solid AAU season the 6-foot-7, 190 pound wing prospect will be making a move to Oakwood School in Greenville, NC this year. Palmetto Basketball caught up with him to see what schools were showing interest and what his goals for the upcoming season are.

“Right now I have offers from Wichita State and UNC-Wilmington,” Buford said. “South Carolina, Clemson, VCU, Virginia Tech, Georgia and Wake Forest are all staying in touch with me. I am hearing the most from VCU right now.”

Led by Shaka Smart, the Rams made an appearance in the Final Four last year and have caught the attention of Buford early on.
“I have been speaking with assistant coach Will Wade and Coach Smart,” he said.” They have told me to call them once a week and they plan to come watch me play at Oakwood this coming season.”

Along with developing a good relationship with the coaches there are a few other aspects of the Rams program that is standing out.

“It is a great school,” he said. “I like their style of play and I like the players that are there. Overall, it is a great school.”

This past summer Buford ran with the South Carolina Raptors Elite and coach Lamont Simmons. He discussed how he thought he performed.

“I did good,” he said. “There are a couple things I need to improve upon. I could have been more of a leader for my team but overall I thought I did well.”

This coming season Buford has a list of areas that he wants to improve upon while at Oakwood.

“I have been working on my shot and ball handling a lot,” he said. “I am trying to get to the rack more and not settling for just jump shots. I think it is all falling together but I just want to become a better player than I was last year.”
